CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations (New South Wales)
This course is a mandatory requirement for all new entrants to the NSW Security Industry.
This course is approved by the NSW Security Licensing Enforcement Director (SLED) and addresses the academic requirements for Class 1A Security Officer – patrol, protect or guard any property while unarmed whether static or mobile and to act as a crowd controller or in a similar capacity.
The course is suitable for people looking to obtain their NSW Class 1A Security Licence and work as a Security Officer. These security officer roles can include static guarding, patrolling, loss prevention, and crowd controllers.
Pre-requisites:
There are no formal pre-requisites for students looking to enrol in this course, however, Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) requires that the candidates have completed the following before enrolment in this course:
- Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Requirement
You are required to undertake the SLED Mandated Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment before enrolment in the course. The RTO will advise of available times to complete this.
The cost of appearing in the LLN test is FREE.
If you fail to meet the minimum LLN skills required to undertake this course, you will be referred to an external provider to help with your LLN skills. - Pre-Enrolment Requirements
- Provide 100 Points of NSW POLICE SLED-approved Identification.
- Read and sign Fact Sheet 6 Acknowledgment.
- You must be at least 18 years of age. (To apply for a security licence)
- You must have full Australian work rights.
- You must have had NO criminal convictions and NO non-convictions in the past ten years
- Complete or provide a copy of a valid First Aid Certificate
- HLTAID011 – Provide first aid
- Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Requirement
Please note that MA Training Academy offers the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid as a standalone course and can provide credit transfers for candidates who require this for entry into this course.
Alternatively, we will recognise Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations, however, you will be required to provide permission for us to authenticate these. Please refer to our Student Handbook for further information.

Cluster 2 Patrol, Monitor and Screen
- CPPSEC2107 Patrol premises to monitor property and maintain security
- CPPSEC2108 Screen people, personal effects, and items to maintain security
- CPPSEC2109 Monitor and control access and exit of persons and vehicles from premises
Cluster 3- Protect Self and Others
- CPPSEC2106 Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques
Cluster 4- Manage Behaviour of Others
- CPPSEC2101 Apply effective communication skills to maintain security
- CPPSEC2105 Provide quality services to a range of security clients

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT):
We do not assess student’s competencies through RPL in this course. However, upon request, we may seek approval from the SLED to evaluate the competency of a student undertaking the course through an assessment only pathway in exceptional circumstances.

Course Delivery:
NSW Security Licence course is subject to NSW Police SLED regulatory conditions/approvals for course schedule / mandated assessment requirements.
Security Course in NSW is structured as a blended delivery program that consists of both classroom face-to-face study environment and self-study. Students must complete pre-reading and external / home study prior to attending the face-to-face class. Students also need to provide or complete HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate prior to attending the class.
Weekdays course requires participants to complete (stage 1) pre-course external/home study to complete the formative assessment after enrolment, and (stage 2) face-to-face class.
11 days Face to face class. Time 08:00am-5:00pm
Assessment:
You will be assessed through a range of assessment methods including knowledge-based quizzes, case studies, report-writing, face-to-face in-class role-plays, written and verbal assessments throughout the course and you must pass NSW SLED Mandated assessments.
Attendance:
Students must attend all training sessions.
Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this Qualification, you will be issued with an official certificate; CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.
Yes, after the successful completion of this course, you will be able to apply for a Security Officer and or Crowd Controller Licence in NSW. It is critical that you familiarise yourself with the eligibility requirements for a Private Security individual Licence in New South Wales prior to committing to this course. What are the job pathways in the security industry?
There are many opportunities in the security industry including unarmed guarding, crowd controller, shopping centre guard, event security, control room operator, monitoring centre operator and mobile patrol.
This qualification can also lead to further learning and pathways to work in guarding cash-in-transit, close protection, training, guarding with a dog, security equipment installer and security advisor.
